1st FORUM: CYCLING & MAJOR EVENTS AS A TOURIST RESOURCE
Great success for the 1st edition of Forum involving many big names in the world of sport and tourism

On occasion of the three Romagna stages of the Giro d’Italia 2020, in October 2020, Sportur Travel collaborated with the Emilia-Romagna Region to organize the Emilia-Romagna Bike Week, a series of initiatives dedicated to the cycling world, whose key event, hosted by the Fantini Club, was the first edition of Forum, entitled “Cycling and Major Events as a Tourist Resource”. The highly successful event, chaired by journalist Lorenzo Dallari, saw ten illustrious guests discuss the theme of cycling as a tourist resource. Renato Di Rocco, president of the Italian cycling federation, Federciclismo, spoke for the first time in Cervia, underlining how the cycling world has now permeated through to all ages and social groups, “becoming ever more about wellness and lifestyle”. Giammaria Manghi, Secretariat President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, talked of the importance of the great combination of sport and tourism, highlighting the enormous influence of great past and future events, from the cycling world championship to Ironman, which, unfortunately, had to be postponed this year. The huge commitment of the Emilia-Romagna Region to promote sports tourism was also reiterated by Andrea Corsini, Regional Councillor for Mobility and Transport, Infrastructure, Tourism and Commerce. Paolo Bellino, CEO and General Manager of RCS Sport, also contributed to the Forum, underlining the fantastic numbers relating to the Giro d’Italia as “the best promotional platform in Italy today, with the aim of 120 million page views for the site”.
Among the other big names attending the event were Davide Cassani, head coach of the Italian National Cycling Team and President of APT Servizi Emilia Romagna, Massimo Medri, Mayor of Cervia, Stefano Rossetti, Deputy General Manager of bank group BPER Banca, Paolo Savoldelli, former professional cyclist, and Claudio Fantini, of Fantini Club and Sportur Travel..
